The 28th Annual General Meeting of Ladies Running Club was held on 28th April 2016.
In her address Rebecca Gatt stated it was the 1st AGM chaired by her in her role as the President. As a club LRC has had a fantastic year with active participation by members in races and weekend runs. LRC also reached a full membership status in Malta Amateur Athletics Association and has been duly represented in MAAA meetings.
This year LRC acquired services of a dedicated coach for the club, Cliff Sultana, whose approach to long distance running, good technique and running efficiency suit our focus and goals in long distance running. Coaching clinic takes place once a week in central location on St. Aloysius track on Tuesdays. The session is highly recommended for all wishing to improve their technique and continuous feedback will ensure the coaching will be beneficial to all.
Mdina Glass LRC10K race was held successfully and annual donation from proceeds to charity was made to Hospice towards the building of an In-Patient unit. Organisation of the race has been outsourced to Malta Marathon which ensured the continuity and strong growth in participation. A special thank you goes to all the sponsors who made the race possible and such an attractive and successful event: Mdina Glass, Eurosport, AM Arrigo , Paul Mitchell, Nestle, Consolidated Biscuits, Ecco, Gehwol, Go and Fun.
Plans for the coming year include: organising the Mdina Glass LRC10K race yet again with higher participation target; organizing more additional activities that support running and members’ overall wellbeing in various ways such as yoga, pilates, stretching and nutrition information; looking into possibilities of participating in a race abroad as a group; and starting the process of registering LRC with SportMalta organisation.
The Secretary Minna Hayman presented the list of activities and events for the past year. Member participation in weekly club runs, running events, races and new members joining the club have continued to grow lively throughout the year. Participation in the MAAA Road League Race had already guaranteed the required 60 participations to secure LRC full membership within the organisation by the date of AGM.
LRC Facebook and web pages have gained the club much positive feedback and attention from media followers and new interested members. Weekly runs have taken place in various locations around the island to refresh the scenery and train members for various challenging races locally and abroad.
Social get-togethers were held for members to unwind in civilian attire in January for the traditional ‘LRC Christmas meal’, in summer, after the Malta Marathon and in conjunction with group participation to Gozo Half and 8 mile races.
Accounts for the year 2015/2016 prepared by Treasurer Alexia Farrugia were read and approved. Motion to increase the annual membership fee to 30 Euros/annum to help cover the increased administration and race participation fees was unanimously carried by members attending.
In line with the club’s statute, this year saw Minna Hayman step down from the committee and seeking re-election, while Alexia Farrugia stepped down due to increased personal professional commitments. Graziella Bezzina, Olivia Schembri and Sonia Vella Zarb submitted their nominations to join the club’s committee and their nominations together with Minna Hayman’s re-election were unanimously approved by the members present. Margaret Formosa and Rebecca Gatt maintained their presence on the committee. Respective roles will be agreed during the first committee meeting following the AGM.
In her closing statement the President thanked the Committee and LRC members for their contribution throughout the past year and was looking forward to the active coming year and continuing growth of the club.
