The 29th Annual General Meeting of Ladies Running Club was held on 19th April 2017.
In her address as the President Rebecca Gatt stated LRC has had a great year with active participation by members in races and weekend runs. Membership number has continued to grow by 37 new applicants since previous AGM.
LRC maintained the full membership status in Malta Amateur Athletics Association and has been duly represented in MAAA meetings. President stressed again the importance of participation in the MAAA road running league and committing to participating in as many races as possible. LRC registration with Sports Malta organisation is at its final stages.
Past year has seen the influence of dedicated club coach Cliff Sultana in significantly improved results on individual level. Weekly coaching clinic is held on St. Aloysius track on Tuesdays. These fun sessions with focus on good technique and running efficiency are highly recommended for all wishing to improve their technique irrespective of level or running experience.
Atlas Healthcare approached LRC with an attractive offer to sponsor our activities and promote healthy lifestyle. Cooperation has already started with sponsorship of our calendars and informative Back to Basics seminar. They will also be sponsoring LRC in the organisation of our annual 10k race.
Mdina Glass LRC10K race was held with great success. Co-operation with our partner Malta Marathon in organisation of the race has ensured the continued strong growth in participation numbers topping over 500 registrations. This year we introduced race specific finisher medals and Eurosport generously provided technical t-shirts to all participants. A special thank you goes to all the sponsors who made the race possible and such a successful event: Mdina Glass, Eurosport, NM Arrigo, VJ Salomone, Nestle, Consolidated Biscuits, Valsoia, Gehwol, Bottega Verde, Josette Fenech artworks, Amanda Hu photography, Melita Gardens, Sunshine Snacks, La Roche-Posay. Our annual donation from race proceeds to charity was made to Hospice Malta.
Plans for the coming year include: organising the Mdina Glass LRC10K race yet again with higher participation target and looking into possibilities of organizing a children’s race category with our 10k race; organizing more additional activities that support running in various ways such as yoga, pilates, cross training and nutrition information; and organizing regular social activities and get-togethers for members.
Secretary Minna Hayman presented the list of activities and events for the past year. Lively participation in weekly club runs, running events, races and healthy rate of new members joining the club have continued throughout the year. Participation in the MAAA Road Running League Race had already almost reached the required participations to secure LRC full membership for the year; and LRC colours have been duly represented in all local road running events by its members.
LRC Facebook and web pages continued to attract positive inquiries and new members. Weekly club runs have taken place in various locations around the island and members have started to take interest in grouping together to race abroad, e.g., Berlin, Padova, Basinstoke, London Royal Parks Half Marathons and London Marathon to mention a few.
Cross training activities were arranged in form of Ta Qali boot-camp and Golden Bay beach workout, kayaking in Ramla Bay and Gym boot-camp in Westin. Social get-togethers were held for members in January for the traditional ‘LRC Christmas meal’, and in summer at Valletta Waterfront.
Accounts for the year 2016/2017 prepared by Treasurer Olivia Schembri were read and approved. Previous AGM motion to increase the annual membership fee to 30 Euros per annum helped cover the increased administration and race participation fees.
In line with the club’s statute, this year saw Rebecca Gatt and Margaret Formosa step down from the committee and Rebecca Gatt seeking re-election. Graziella Bezzina, Olivia Schembri, Sonia Vella Zarb and Minna Hayman maintained their presence on the committee, while Marion Zammit and Tanya Philips submitted their nominations to join the club’s committee and their nominations together with Rebecca Gatt’s re-election were unanimously approved by the members present. Respective roles will be agreed during the first committee meeting following the AGM.
In her closing statement the President thanked the Committee and LRC members for their contribution throughout the past year and was looking forward to the active coming year and continuing growth of the club.
